West Village Duplex, New York by Studio ST
October 24th, 2008 - Posted in Interior Design
This beautiful and minimalist of 2000 square foot West Village Duplex was designed by Studio ST. The architects commisioned to design this duplex with 3 guiding mission Beauty, Simplicity and Clarity. The lower floor of the duplex was completely gutted keeping only the original wood floors. The ceilings were raise to the maximum possible adding light and a feeling of spaciousness previously missing.

The color pallet was kept to a minimum accentuating the materials and their inherent properties. White kitchen cabinets with white corian countertops and an almost white Novelda Crème lime stone bench in the living room. A few splashes of color were added using unique materials such as the Spa Green Quartzite floor in the kitchen, and a metallic glass turquoise tiles in the powder room.

The new stair has a stainless steel stringer, wood treads and an impressive “hardware-less” glass railing. The stair is light by a new skylight and a series of glass lights above. At the top of the stair we created an open study with a built-in desk and bookcases over looking the upper terrace.

The master bathroom was finished with Inca Gray stone – a dark consistent gray limestone – and 12”x24” Apavisa Limestone porcelain tile. The master bathroom vanity is a custom piece carved out of the Inca Gray limestone in China and shipped to the site.
